Losing access to cheap car insurance could be the least of a driver's problems if they do not look after one important vehicle part properly, it has been suggested.

According to TyreSafe, motorists who do not check their auto offers enough grip in wet conditions are risking a serious accident.

The group pointed out skidding is a major problem at this time of year, when there tends to be a lot of rainfall.

It claimed in order for vehicle owners to minimise their chances of a collision, they need to check their tyre tread depth on a regular basis.

Chairman Stuart Jackson said it is vital people ensure these important car parts are in tip-top condition.

He stated: "If people do not look after them properly, not only do they risk incurring fines and penalty points, but they also greatly increase their likelihood of being involved in a serious accident."

Meanwhile, the Institute of Advanced Motorists also recently suggested drivers could be in danger of crashing - and having to make a car insurance claim - if they do not check their tyres are in a roadworthy condition.
