Car insurance customers from Yorkshire could soon see the benefits of early electric vehicle adoption as part of a regional development agency's scheme.

Yorkshire Forward's CO2Sense plans to install around 700 electric vehicles charging points in Leeds, Sheffield, York and Hull, if it is successful in its GBP30 million bid for funding.

Nicole Ballantyne, project manager of CO2Sense, said the lack of recharging points is often seen as a barrier to adopting electric vehicles, as people do not know whether they will be able to power up at their destination.

"We aim to set up a network of charging points in the main cities in Yorkshire, so that anyone will be able to drive from Hull to Leeds, York or Sheffield, knowing that they will be able to recharge their cars once they arrive," she commented.

Milton Keynes has similar plans for motor insurance customers, with around 430 charging points expected to be installed in the city.ADNFCR-3010-ID-19820680-ADNFCR
