Car insurance: College kids get safety lesson

Tuesday, 18 March 2008

Students at West Somerset Community College have attempted to outline road safety issues to their fellow pupils.

Johnathan Williams and Ella Howells put on the talk after the latter was involved in a traffic incident, reports the Somerset County Gazette.

As part of the initiative, hard-hitting videos along with expert advice was given to sixth-form students at the venue.

Charlie Fitzpatrick, a policeman from Minehead, was also there to drill home the message and warned youngsters against bad driving, something that may damage their car insurance premiums.

Head of sixth form Jerry Hardington noted that the event was put on after Ms Howells expressed a desire to show responsibility.

"Ella came to see me and was very passionate about how young drivers need to be made aware of the dangers on the roads," he told the publication.

Recently a road safety drive in Yorkshire's Ravensthorpe resulted in safety education for children.
