Travel insurance: Packing tips for backpackers
Tuesday, 08 December 2009
Backpacking is a great alternative holiday for young and old travel insurance customers alike, and one of the most exciting ways to see any destination.
A recent BBC poll showed that backpacking holidays were on the rise, with New Zealand, Indonesia and Thailand the top three destinations.
But if carrying holiday gear around on your back sounds daunting, travel writer James Tennant has a few tips for packing light.
Mr Tennant recommends making a list of everything that will be needed for the trip, ensuring essential items such as medicines, sunscreen, phone chargers and passports gain priority over everything else.
Taking around a week's worth of clothing is a sensible idea, says Mr Tennant.
Clothes can be washed, repaired and replaced while away. But it is a good idea to pack a few T-shirts and thick jumpers, combat pants and jeans, plenty of underwear and spare shoes for all weather conditions.
