Motor insurance: Bucks drivers targeted for speeding

Tuesday, 01 July 2008

Speeding drivers are likely to have seen increased car insurance premiums following a new initiative from the police force in Buckinghamshire.

After the enforcement in Beaconsfield, 3,175 vehicles were implicated for travelling above the 30 mph legal limit, reports the Bucks Free Press.

These individuals were caught by camera technology that was jointly operated by the Neighbourhood Action Group and the police.

Such instances of law breaking are taken "very seriously" by the force, noted Sergeant Dominic Williamson.

"We intend to continue to monitor and enforce the speed limits around Beaconsfield," he commented.

He added that the message is getting across to some people but more needs to be to so that the local roads are safer in the future.

In Berkshire, £1 million in fines have been handed over to speeding drivers, despite the fact that half of those caught chose to go on a safety awareness course instead.
