Council faces backlash on potholes

Thursday, 01 March 2012

A council could be facing an angry backlash from the public, after it budgeted for upgrading its own buildings, rather than filling potholes in the road.

Conservative councillor Derek Scott, said that residents in Dundee have been complaining about the state of the roads thanks to many potholes being present, making roads dangerous and increasing the risk of car insurance claims.

However, he said that the SNP council allocated its budget to allow it to fix its own buildings rather than roads.

"In the last couple of weeks the importance of prioritising our roads and pavements has only been reinforced in my mind by the number of constituents I have had contacting me wanting to report potholes and trip hazards," Mr Scott told the Courier.

Potholes were a severe issue on many roads on Scotland in the harsh winter of 2010, with many roads being a risk for months as councils struggled to keep up with repairs after the big freeze.
