Darker wood floors "beautiful" says expert

Thursday, 04 October 2012

Darker wood floors have been deemed “beautiful” by interior designer Adrienne Chinn.

She said that she has seen a fashion for darker floors made from this material and especially American black walnut and walnut woods.

She added that the trend is also for having less width to the planks than has previously been the case –  a tip home insurance holders may wish to take on board.

“This is such a beautiful look for both traditional and contemporary homes and adds a real wow factor to a room,” she said.

Wood flooring of this sort creates a great canvas on which to present rugs, she suggested, while achieving “visual warmth”.

"Make sure any wood floor you purchase is certified as being sourced from sustainable forests," she recommended, however.

"Hardwood floors that are installed and maintained properly can last for hundreds of years,” said CEO and executive director of the National Wood Flooring Association, Ed Korczak, recently.
