Designated drivers find festive rewards

Sunday, 25 December 2011

Sensible drivers who do not drink this year will find themselves rewarded in over 8,000 pubs and clubs throughout the UK this festive period, as an advertising campaign aims to cut down on the number of accidents caused by alcohol.

The THINK! Christmas drink drive campaign, launched by road safety minister Mike Penning, will run adverts aimed at 17 to 29 year old car insurance customers on TV and radio, and those who are designated drivers will be able to pick up free soft drinks as a reward for taking on the sensible option.

Drivers will also be able to locate pubs enrolled in the scheme through their smartphones or online.

Mike Penning said: "Our THINK! campaign makes it clear that drivers who get behind the wheel over the limit risk losing their licence as well as facing a fine and even a prison sentence."

Last week, road charity Brake backed the initiative from the Association of Chief Police Officers which promises a crackdown on people who drink and drive.
