Car insurance: Drivers urged to look after autos
Monday, 14 September 2009
Motorists who have managed to save money by securing budget car insurance may find they can reduce outgoings further by showing their auto a bit of tender loving care, it has been suggested.
According to Europcar, keeping a vehicle in tip-top condition can boost its value and make it run more efficiently.
The company urged drivers to check tyre pressure on a weekly basis.
It explained this can make these important vehicle parts last longer and improve fuel economy.
Europcar claimed it is also important to stick to a manufacturer's scheduled servicing appointments.
In addition, it urged drivers to avoid smoking in vehicles, as this can cause discolouration and affect the motor's resale value.
The firm came up with these tips after years of looking after its own fleet.
Marketing director Catriona Lougher commented: "We hope some of our inventive solutions to keep cars in top condition this autumn will help drivers reduce unnecessary wear and tear on their own vehicles."
In other news, Europcar may have been forced to make a claim on its motor insurance recently when a customer returned a hire auto in less than perfect condition after a horse sat on the bonnet.
