Extra travel insurance the norm for skiing family

Thursday, 03 February 2011

Standard travel insurance is fine for the majority of holidaymakers, but when you're getting up to something a little more extreme, it pays to make sure you're adequately covered.

This is the attitude of one British couple, Stephen and Dafina Keys, who have a nine year old daughter intent on competing on the slopes in the Olympics.

Georgia Keys has already won a number of skiing competitions and is the Scottish under-10s indoor champion, so when it comes to holidaying in the alps, extra travel insurance cover is a must.

An insurance upgrade for the Keys costs just £75 but gives them complete peace of mind.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Dafina said: "Georgia does ski off-piste so it was important this was covered.

"We checked the wording of the policy and luckily we were covered for off-piste skiing with a guide."

Recently, holidaymakers were urged by the European Commission vice-president for transport Siim Kallas to make sure they know the rules of the road when they are travelling abroad to ensure they avoid committing an offence or invalidating their travel insurance.
