Car insurance: safety feature on Fiesta could reduce accidents

Monday, 10 November 2008

A new feature being introduced into Ford Fiestas could reduce the number of car insurance claims made as a result of motorists being dazzled by vehicles approaching from behind.

Gentex has revealed it is providing auto-dimming interior rear-view mirrors for the manufacturer's updated model across Europe.

The device will feature as standard on the Ghia and Titanium trim levels of the Fiesta.

Customers who buy a vehicle with the innovation should find it darkens automatically in response to the glare from lights on rear-approaching cars.

The device is already available on the Focus.

Enoch Jen, senior vice president at Gentex, said: "We are very pleased that Ford recognises the importance of the auto-dimming feature in the European market."

Last month it was revealed all trim levels of the new 2009 Honda Civic would be offering the device as an option.
