Car insurance: Free car seat service announced

Monday, 19 January 2009

Most drivers would agree if one of their children was hurt in a road accident, a motor insurance claim would be the last thing on their minds.

In order to cut the chances of this happening, Tayside police have announced they are offering a monthly service so parents can check their car seats have been fitted correctly.

Officers explained they were not looking to criticise or catch people out.

They stated they simply want to provide free and impartial advice to help keep children safe on the road.

Parents keen to take advantage of the service will need to book first.

Marian Scott, road safety coordinator, said: "The idea behind this new appointment scheme is to deliver an enhanced service on a date and at a time when the public know we will be available."

For further information, residents in the area have been advised to contact their local road safety officer.

In other news, Tayside police recently suggested drivers may be risking a car insurance claim by failing to adjust their behaviour behind the wheel in response to changes in the weather.
