Frozen pipe threat to home insurance

As Britain remains in the grip of the cold snap, the need for home insurance to protect against frozen pipes is being highlighted.

The Association of British Insurers estimates burst pipes and leaking water are likely to cause £7 million of damage, every day this winter.

Last year, a grand total of £644 million was paid out by home insurance providers for damage caused by escaped water, and this includes business premises.

The ABI believes the sum could be even higher this year, and the organisation is stressing the need for homeowners to ensure that their home insurance policies provide adequate cover.

To help minimise damage if a pipe does burst, you should know where your stopcock is.

Cutting off the water supply can make the difference between a small and massive claim on your home insurance - and the misery of water damage on a freezing cold day. ADNFCR-3010-ID-19949617-ADNFCR
