Hexagons the shape of things to come, says interiors expert

Thursday, 22 March 2012

Homeowners buying fabric should opt for hexagonal designs to stay on-trend in the coming months, according to one expert.

Adrienne Chinn also adds that home insurance holders should make use of second hand objects, perhaps from holidays or older family members, as part of what she calls a mood of "1970s relaxed grooviness, mixed with 21st century eclecticism".

Part of this 2012 movement is an art deco revival, she says. Meanwhile, despite the Olympics, brass, rather than gold, is the way to go when it comes to door handles over the coming months.

"It's a looser, relaxed and more fun mood than we've seen for some time," the Adriennechinn.co.uk director says of homes, 2012 style. "It's all about bringing your personality into your home - rather than living in a home that looks like a five-star hotel."

She adds that "a big monstera deliciosa houseplant" is a must-buy.

Ms Chinn's website includes a blog where she shares further tips, including inspiring pictures of her own home.
