Travel insurance: Caravan warning for holidaymakers
Monday, 21 August 2006
Holidaymakers are being warned to make sure they have adequate travel insurance before embarking on a caravan trip this summer.
It is estimated that there are now more than 500,000 caravans in the UK and a further 120,000 motor homes and many people are seeing caravanning as a cheap and relaxing pursuit.
However, holidaymakers are warned to make sure they are covered against any potential accidents or emergencies before taking to the open road.
Purchasing the correct travel insurance will ensure coverage against possible jack-knifing when trying to attach the caravan as well as against potential hazards when towing. However, motorists are reminded that driving whilst towing can be very dangerous especially at high speeds as well as very tiring – 20 per cent of caravan accidents are often related to driver fatigue.
Travellers are also urged to make sure that they are covered if they plan to travel overseas with their caravan as not all cheap travel insurance offers full coverage for trips across the Channel as well as ensuring that they have an insurance policy that offers complete protection for any items left unattended in the caravan.
