Travel insurance: Hostels 'more social' than hotels
Tuesday, 27 May 2008
Hostels offer a better chance for tourists to meet other people than hotels, it has been claimed.
These low budget options are generally more "sociable" in comparison to the "stuffy" feeling generated by the other form of accommodation, communications manager at the Youth Hostel Association (YHA) Paul Fearn noted.
Individuals usually frequenting hostels, he asserted, include backpackers because they enjoy the self-catering nature of them and also the fact that laundry areas are communal, so they can talk with others.
He remarked: "In our hostels in England and Wales we do offer food. We use fresh locally-sourced produce and organic produce wherever possible and all of our hostels are licensed."
While accommodation is also usually shared, he added, in more venues it is now private and en-suite services are becoming more normal.
The YHA has dubbed hostels as "good quality" venues were people with similar attitudes towards touring can meet up and share their tales.
Tourists should ensure that they have adequate travel insurance in place before heading off on journeys.
