Travel insurance: Lots of winter adventure choices in Iceland

Thursday, 06 November 2008

Holidaymakers looking for an exciting winter getaway may be tempted by Iceland.

According to Maria Reynisdottir of Visit Reykjavik, the short distances in the country mean visitors "can really pack a lot into a short break" including trips to famous attractions like the Blue Lagoon, the Geysir hot springs and Thingvellir national park.

The Northern Lights can also be seen over the winter season.

People looking for travel insurance might want to consider sports cover too, with adventure activities such as snow mobiling, hiking, river rafting and horse riding on offer in Iceland.

There is also "a very active creative scene", Ms Reynisdottir added, highlighting the attractions of the capital.

"Reykjavik is a destination in its own right with lots of excellent restaurants, museums, thermal pools, its famous nightlife and shopping," she said.

Iceland appears to be growing in popularity, according to Statistics Iceland, which states the number of foreign tourists in 2007 was 485,000, compared with 303,000 in 2000.
