Keep car keys safe and out of sight

Brits should make sure their vehicles are safe and secure in the evenings, Calderdale Police has warned.

The advice to car insurance customers comes after the force has seen a number of break-ins, which saw thieves steal high value automobiles from homes in Ripponden.

Officers from the Upper Valley neighbourhood policing team have been advising residents to keep their car keys out of the reach of burglars.

Dean McIntyre, detective inspector from Calderdale Police, said: "There are plenty of simple steps motorists can take to prevent becoming a victim of Hanoi-style burglaries.

"These include parking your car in a garage if possible, keeping car keys out of view and easy reach, locking doors and windows, and using a wheel clamp."

Recently, West Mercia police conducted Operation Decibel, which advised car insurance customers in its area to keep their vehicle keys safe in their homes.

The force stated that not leaving keys within sight of doors and windows are all basic safety precautions that everyone can undertake.
