Leicestershire police warn speeders

Thursday, 29 September 2011

Police in Leicestershire have pulled over motorcyclists and car drivers at an accident blackspot in the region as part of a summer-long campaign on speeders.

The force revealed to motor insurance owners in the area that the B6047 at Tur Langton, north of Market Harborough, has claimed three lives and seriously injured 11 people in the last three years.

According to the police, the four-hour operation was in place to alter drivers' attitudes towards speeding.

Graham Compton, who was in charge of the initiative, told thisisleicestershire.co.uk: "Some of the people who were stopped had exceeded the limit, but the idea was to try to change attitudes to speed rather than penalise people."

Recently, CrashMap.co.uk was launched, allowing car insurance customers to look up the details of every road traffic crash reported to the police since 2005.

The website will make over one million incidents available to the public, who can also download a detailed collision report on the accidents.
