People who are planning to avoid increases in the cost of
car insurance due to points on their licence have been reminded of the hazards of using a mobile phone while driving.
During December, it was found that, despite efforts by UK police over the past ten years, increased fines are failing to stop motorists from using their phone on the roads, according to research by swiftcover.com.
After a Freedom of Information request was made by the
motor insurance company last month, new figures were revealed regarding the crime.
The statistics from England and Wales police forces revealed that the number of people caught for the offence is now higher than during the year after stricter penalties were enforced
In total, 171,000 fixed penalty notices for mobile phone offences were made in 2010 to 2011, which is higher than the 166,800 penalties delivered in 2006.
This latest figure is also double the number of 74,000 in 2004.
