Motor insurance holders urged to prepare for big freeze

Motor insurance policyholders are being urged to prepare for this winter's big freeze.

Car care specialist Autoglym is calling for car insurance holders to avoid experiencing vehicle problems by preparing themselves for the impending cold spell.

Motorists can prevent their door and boot seals from freezing shut by treating and protecting them.

The specialist advises drivers to keep a de-icer handy - preferably in the house - to use outside the car if you cannot get inside it.

To clean grime from headlights and side windows, Autoglym suggests keeping an easy-to-use glass cleaner at hand.

Paul Caller, the company's chief executive officer, said: "From one winter to the next, so many people forget to prepare their cars sufficiently for the sub-zero conditions. We're urging motorists to remember the difficulties they faced last year and to take some basic steps to avoid the same problems arising again."

Recently, repair centre Kwik Fit warned the worst temperature motor insurance customers can drive in is seven degrees C, not freezing point.
