Motor insurance: UK planning causes traffic jams
Thursday, 07 December 2006
Road congestion will not ease as long as the UK's chaotic planning system continues, according to experts.
Road Block, an anti-road campaign group, has said that commuting exacerbates congestion on the UK roads as well as the UK's planning system which encourages shopping centres to be built outside towns, meaning people have to drive to get to them.
Rebecca Lush, spokeswoman for Road Block, said: "Our planning system is a disaster – we end up having lots of out of town development and we are encouraging people to commute bigger and bigger distances.
"Transport planning at the moment is just ridiculous. All this exists without acknowledging that the internet is now replaces the need for many people to travel to meetings."
Road pricing may be a suitable solution to traffic jams but some say it would just make motoring more expensive.
Either way there are savings to be made by shopping online for cheap car insurance.
