Car insurance: Driving ban given to police officer

Friday, 27 June 2008

A 50-day driving ban has been handed out to a policewoman who was caught speeding by a camera, news that may interest those with car insurance.

Jacqueline Edwards, 36, was spotted driving at 83 mph in a 40 mph zone while there were roadworks, reports the Daily Post.

The speed camera was activated in Llanfairfechan, Conwy, after Ms Edwards had also been clocked travelling at high speeds to attend to an incident.

But prosecutors could find no viable reason as to why she darted back to base in Wrexham following the call-out.

"There was no emergency call which required her to exceed the speed limit," stated Robert Blakemore.

Yet the dog handler Police Constable had claimed that she needed to be close to the Wrexham area in a bid to carry out her job correctly.

In related news, a couple from the Sheffield area has been unsuccessful in their attempt to overturn a speeding ticket and will now have to pay out £15,000 in legal fees.
