Car insurance: Popular plates 'to go under the hammer'

Tuesday, 13 January 2009

Motorists who have a bit of spare cash after saving money by purchasing cheap car insurance may be tempted to splash out on a personalised registration this year.

According to the Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), 2009 could be the perfect time to invest in private plates as it will be selling its O-series during the course of the next 12 months.

The organisation explained 1 O in particular is regarded as one of the most desirable personalised registrations still available.

Marketing manager Damian Lawson stated: "1 O is arguable one of the last great jewels in our crown."

This plate is due to go under the hammer at a three-day event starting on January 28th at Whittlebury Hall in Northamptonshire.

After this, 2 O will be sold at Ardencote Manor in Warwickshire in March.

In June, 3 O will be available for motorists to bid on, 4 O is due to be sold in August, 5 O goes under the hammer in October and finally 6 O will be offered to buyers in December.

Meanwhile, retired businessman Rob Harverson recently shelled out £197,000 for the registration 1 RH.
