Travel insurance: Quirky cruises 'becoming more popular'

Thursday, 22 January 2009

The number of holidaymakers taking out travel insurance for quirky cruises could be on the rise, if the comments of one group of enthusiasts are anything to go by.

Cruise Critic said there are ships catering for a wide variety of tastes these days.

It stated there are nudist trips, breaks devoted to specific bands and even Star Trek holidays.

UK communications manager Ian Rumgay said: "Cruises have moved light years away from what … [they] used to be 15 years ago."

He explained operators were keen to provide holidays for every minority interest to make sure they fill their cabins.

According to Cruise Critic, some of the quirkier trips for 2009 include Celestial Cruising - a break for astrologers - and Bikers Onboard - a getaway for motorcycle enthusiasts.

Cruise Critic is an organisation created for avid and first-time sea-lovers who enjoy planning, researching and sharing their passion for life on the ocean waves.

People keen to experience this type of holiday may find they can reduce their costs by searching for cheap travel insurance.
