Shop around to save on home and travel insurance

Wednesday, 05 January 2011

People need to shop around in order to make savings on their home insurance and travel insurance, according to new advice.

Paying contents insurance or buildings insurance premiums annually, rather than monthly, could save people around £15, research from moneysupermarket.com showed.

Homeowners could save £132 if they shop around to look for the best deal to suit all their requirements.

In terms of travel insurance, the price comparison site recommends going to an insurance provider and not using a travel agent - this could save holidaymakers £24.

If people are travelling more than once a year, they could save £21 by opting for an annual policy, instead of single-trip ones.

Recently, holidaymakers heading away over the festive period were advised to double-check their flights are leaving before heading to the airport.

The UK has been hit by severe ice and heavy snowfall in some areas, which is affecting travel hubs.
