Car insurance: Silver autos 'demonstrate wealth'

Drivers taking out motor insurance for silver models may be trying to let other people know they are doing well despite the recession, according to one auto retailer.

Research by Carcraft has shown this is the most popular colour among vehicle buyers, with 31 per cent opting for this finish.

Marketing manager Stacey Ludlow said the shade people decide on could reveal clues to their personality.

She stated: "Colour psychologists say silver denotes prestige and wealth."

Ms Ludlow added motorists who are attracted to this finish may be trying to let others know they have been largely unaffected by the economic downturn.

Blue was found to be the second most popular colour among auto buyers, with 25 per cent preferring this hue.

Meanwhile, eight per cent opted for red motors.

Earlier this summer, Carcraft suggested more Brits may end up looking for car insurance for convertibles this year - with experts predicting lots of sunny weather.
