Simple gardens offer pleasure too

Tuesday, 23 October 2012

An expert in gardens has suggested that they can be simple in style and still give pleasure – something home insurance holders with less ornate outdoor spaces may welcome.

The Royal Horticultural Society's shows organiser, Bob Sweet, has explained that: "A simple garden can very often be as pleasurable as a garden which has taken a lot of care and attention." He also said that gardens needn't cost a lot of money.

Some of the gardens that he has visited are simple and haven't cost much, he said. Meanwhile, other gardens see their owners go "the extra mile", with "spectacular" varieties of plant that take more work.

"Gardening in that way is a very different type of gardening to just maintaining something that is simple and useful," the expert advised.

Grow Your Own Magazine's Lucy Halsall has explained in the past that people's garden tool requirements match how much space they enjoy.

"The garden tools you have is governed by what growing space you have and your physical ability," she said last year.
