Travel insurance: Skiers 'will still head to Europe'

Friday, 09 January 2009

The number of people taking out travel insurance policies for ski holidays in Europe this year may remain relatively stable, if the comments of one British group are anything to go by.

According to the Ski Club of Great Britain, the unfavourable exchange rate with the euro is unlikely to have a huge effect on the number of Brits heading to the slopes in Europe.

It said ease of access is one of the main attractions of short-haul destinations.

Spokeswoman Carrie Hainge stated: "For people who have young children, it's not the long flight if you would travel to Canada or America."

Holidaymakers can also make savings by taking packed lunches onto the slopes rather than eating at a restaurant, she added.

Another way people who are feeling the pinch can cut the costs of a ski holiday is by searching for cheap travel insurance online.

The Ski Club of Great Britain is the largest snowsports club in the UK.
