Small family cars 'in demand for car insurance holders'

Tuesday, 01 March 2011

Car insurance policyholders are increasingly buying small family cars and superminis.

Greater awareness of eco-friendly motoring, coupled with the economic downturn has led to motor insurance holders demanding more fuel-efficient cars with lower costs, according to HPI.

HPI advises motorists to take advantage of information about fuel and efficiency ratings before buying a new vehicle.

As well as there being a surge in small car purchases, there has been a little hike in 4x4 sales, which HPI suggests could be as a result of the poor weather conditions causing potholes.

"Consumers are clearly focusing on reducing the size of their vehicle as they brace themselves for another year of economic instability," said Nicola Johnson, consumer services manager for HPI.

She said ensuring your new vehicle has a free CO2 certificate from HPI so you can check its emissions and fuel ratings.

Recently, Roadsafe suggested newer cars are more fuel efficient and they are also safer for motorists.
