Monday, 22 October 2007
A high proportion of residents in Dacorum and Hemel Hempstead have stated that they think speed cameras are a good idea.
In total, 81 per cent of those studied by Hertfordshire county council thought that the use of cameras encourages drivers to stick within the legal limit, reports Hemel Today.
Additionally, 83 per cent said that keeping to this limit is important in reducing the number of accidents seen on the roads.
Moreover, 52 per cent believed that the first goal of speed cameras was to minimise incidents that are seen from day to day.
Despite this, fewer than 50 per cent of respondents knew that a set of streetlights represents a 30mph speed limit when there are no road signs pointing this out.
Motorists could find that their car insurance premiums are impacted upon if they are caught by such cameras.
Recently, the general public in St Albans also recognised the presence of speed cameras as a good thing, with 78 having stated that cameras help the law to be enforced.
