This Spring's Outdoor DIY Basics

Monday, 05 May 2014

With the long, dark days of winter banished to the back of our minds, it’s time to start making the most of the light nights and warmer days. And what better way to kick-start the new season than by giving the outside of your home a bit of TLC, making it easy for you to relax as we approach the summer, safe in the knowledge that your property is prepared.

To help you on the way, we've put together a basic guide to outdoor DIY for this spring.

1. Keeping up appearances

Spend a little time touching up exterior paintwork, wiping down windowsills and cleaning your double glazing for a touch of spring sparkle. There’s nothing better than looking up at your home while relaxing outdoors after a hard day at work and feeling a glow of pride.

2. Patio perfection

Whether you can lay your hands on a pressure washer to blast away dirt and weeds or simply use a bit of elbow grease, cleaning patios, paths and driveways is a great way to freshen up the outside of your home and garden.

3. Green fingers

A newly potted shrub or splash of colour from hanging baskets really can revitalise your outside space. Even if you don’t have a garden, tubs in your porch are an easy way to give any home a wow factor.

4. Lighten up

A great tip for brightening things up is to think about your outside lights. A perfect complement to the right home insurance, security lighting can also give you real peace of mind. If you’ve already got lighting installed, check the bulbs are working and give them a quick clean for maximum dazzle.

5. Fencing

Now’s the time to mend broken boundaries that have been damaged by winter storms. Not only will a neater fence look much more pleasing, but it’s also a great way to keep unwanted visitors out.

As you can see, spending a little time and effort sprucing up your outside space this spring can help you reap big rewards when the sun finally comes out.
