Travel insurance: Holidays up after terror scare

Tuesday, 22 August 2006

The number of UK holidaymakers planning a vacation has risen significantly since the introduction of added security on flights overseas.

Companies such as Haven and British Holidays are reporting a ten per cent increased in bookings especially given this year's unusually hot weather.

The company explained: "We have seen a significant increase in the number of advance bookings for peak periods. Year on year we are up four per cent - this equates to over 6,000 more families having a holiday during the summer months in the UK on top of the 500,000 we usually expect."

Many holidaymakers realise that staying in the UK has a number of benefits including affordable prices, reduced travelling time and less hassle, especially when accompanied by young children.

However, travellers are still being advised to purchase holiday insurance even if they are not going abroad this year. Adequate travel insurance can help to provide a wide range of cover against many unforeseen incidents including stolen luggage and last-minute cancellations.
