Time up for alarm clocks?

Wednesday, 04 July 2012

Hopefully this news won't be too alarming for clock fans to handle.

For years, home insurance holders have used alarm clocks in their homes as a way of helping them to get up in the morning – as well as perhaps aiding in the baking of the odd cake.

But all that has apparently changed for the majority of people in Britain, according to new O2 figures.

The company says that most people employ their mobile instead of a traditional alarm clock these days.

Some 54 per cent on them have made this move, while 39 per cent are taking advantage of the fact that all mobiles can take pictures by using them instead of cameras.

Even watches have been neglected by some 46 per cent who have noticed that mobiles have internal clocks.

The figures are part of a report that O2 commissioned to tie in with a new phone, the Samsung Galaxy SIII, coming onto the scene.

"Smartphones are now being used like a digital ‘Swiss Army Knife’, replacing possessions like watches, cameras, books and even laptops," said the company's David Johnson.
