Car insurance: iQ could help motorists save money

Thursday, 02 October 2008

Drivers hoping to find a cheap car insurance deal by trading in their current vehicle for a smaller model may want to take a look at Toyota's iQ.

The city car is less than three metres long, yet the manufacturer claims its design does not compromise on space, comfort or driving fun.

Toyota states the model will form a key milestone in future vehicle development due to its innovative features.

Car insurance customers may also be interested to hear it has carbon emissions of less than 100 grams per kilometre which should mean road tax is free.

Available to order now, the first deliveries are expected to take place early next year.

Meanwhile, the final production version is due to make its debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.

Chief engineer Hiroki Nakajima says the car is likely to appeal to a certain type of person.

He explains when designing it he had in mind "post-modern people who demonstrate independence in their choice of lifestyle and values".

Earlier this week, Toyota revealed the iQ would feature an airbag designed to protect backseat passengers involved in a rear-end collision.
