Car Insurance: Used cars in Warwickshire 'unsafe'

A high number of used cars on sale in the Warwickshire area are unsafe, according to figures released by the county council.

Trading Standards officials said that six of 22 vehicles looked at were deemed unacceptable for use on the roads, reports the Evesham Journal.

Various faults were found on the cars after the inspection, such as poor flooring, broken lights and ripped wiper blades.

Portfolio holder for local community protection, county councillor Richard Hobbs, remarked that drivers' lives are being put in danger because certain individuals are not adhering to safety measures.

He told the paper: "We will continue to take action against traders who fail to take their responsibilities seriously and I urge any consumer who believed they may have purchased an unroadworthy vehicle to contact Trading Standards."

In 2007, Consumer Direct received a large number of complaints about the nature of second hand car sales, reports the BBC.

Drivers involved in collisions could find that their car insurance premiums are impacted upon.
